The Key Setting

The A6700 carries Sony's most advanced AI autofocus system in an APS‑C body — the same subject recognition engine found in the full frame A7RV. Most A6700 owners never activate it fully. Go to the camera's AF menu, find Subject Recognition AF, set it to Human, then ensure Eye AF is set to On in the same menu. The camera will now lock onto the nearest human eye in the frame and track it continuously through movement, partial occlusion, and changing light. At an event this means your only remaining job is composition and timing. The autofocus system handles everything else. This single menu activation transforms the A6700 from a capable camera into a genuine event operator tool.

Sony E 16‑55mm f/2.8 G
The definitive APS‑C event zoom — full frame equivalent 24‑82mm range, constant f/2.8 aperture, and fast, precise autofocus. The A6700's IBIS compensates for the lack of optical stabilisation, making it the versatile workhorse for indoor events.
Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS
The lightweight prime alternative — 52mm full‑frame equivalent, with optical stabilisation supplementing the A6700's IBIS for maximum stability in dim conditions. Compact enough for all‑day, discreet event coverage.

"Full frame performance lives in your APS‑C body. The sensor does not determine the operator. The operator determines the sensor's ceiling. You have not hit it yet."
